Local Guides Bangla is a Google Local Guides community. Google Local Guides are those who do regular quality guiding, specially on Google Maps, and are determined to keep their area’s maps spam-free. Thousands of youth and guiding enthusiasts make up Local Guides Bangla. There are many members, ranging from simple Local Guides to seasoned map experts and IT professionals.Local Guides Volunteers run the group. Apart from regular online mapping and guiding, Local Guide Bangla members regularly organize offline or online meet-ups and events. Local guide meet-ups usually focus on mapping, guiding, the creation of new local guides, discussions on local guides, the promotion of the local tourism industry, history and heritage, and how to represent Bangladesh through Google Maps and the local guide community. All Google Local Guides, including Local Guides Bangla, work on a voluntary basis. Google officially runs the Local Guides program, which relies on the voluntary contributions of its contributors. Local Guides Bangla is a familiar name to everyone in the Local Guides community, including Bangladesh. Local Guides Bangla is known for its creation of new local guides, its organization of meet-ups and events, and its use of spam-free Google Maps. We also aim to raise awareness about how traders can utilize Google Maps to advertise their businesses, organizations, and products. Additionally, our goal is to enable everyone in the modern world to find the correct and accurate route using the online map platform, without the need for human assistance. We are also contributing to the creation of new volunteer local guides by promoting quality and proper guiding education.

We have a separate campaign named “Map Accessibility” as part of the wheelchair accessibility campaign. Every year, we organize several meet-ups under the banner of the campaign. In these meet-ups, we directly update the accessibility information on Google Maps and also educate the business owners and building managers, or their representatives, on the importance of accessibility facilities. We strive to uphold the rights of the disabled community in Bangladesh, enabling them to navigate wheelchairs in any location without requiring assistance.

We have also another campaign named Let’s Enrich Our Local Map. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we worked as a mapping community partner with the Bangladesh Ministry of Information Technology. A2i, Grameenphone, Preneur Lab, Youth Hub,  and many others were the sponsors of the household mapping campaign titled Bangladesh Challenge. In this campaign, the Local Guides Bangla team worked as “Expert Mappers and Mapping Data Analysts.”

There are many experienced guides and mappers in the local guides community, as well as Connect Moderators, local guides who have earned Guiding Stars, who can advise you on anything with their expertise. I believe that practical experience and advice will help us a lot and inspire us to move forward.
